Michael Gorman exhibition

MICHAEL Gorman will be showing new work at The Gallery, Tala from Wednesday, December 5,2007 for a fortnight.

Join them at 7.30pm for a glass of award winning wine provided by our sponsor Vasilikon Winery, Kathikas.

Since coming to live in Cyprus over three years ago, Michael Gorman has succeeded in dramatically extending his theme of ‘Nude in the Landscape’.

The rugged coastline of the Paphos/Akamas area has provided rich inspiration giving rise to striking visual contrasts where the female form is set against naturally jagged rock formations.

Erosion of the indigenous limestone landscape has created an amazing variety of shape, colour and texture which the artist captures in his paintings.

This signature juxtaposition of texture, colour and form are painted with a uniquely meticulous technique: acrylic paint on canvas is applied in an infinite number of dots and brush marks to construct each work.

These works respond to both the sensual warmth of the Eastern Mediterranean islands and their mythical heritage. A combination not to be missed!

Further information 26621424 or 99006832. Michael Gorman’s Artist studio: 99952376.

Gallery opening times: 6.30pm – late.

Nicos Kypraios Gloria Gallery

This exhibition was opened by His Excellency Garth Hunt, Australian High Commissioner to Cyprus last Monday. It will now be extended until December 6. What Van Gogh did to sunflowers Nicos Kypraios has done for roses.

The gallery has more than a few hung on its walls. A whole bouquet, actually.

Robert C. Morgan PhD, a leading international critic has written: " These paintings of flowers give us more than a lyrical nuance. They are paintings that hold a tremendous force".

Christos Avraamides

This exceptionally fine exhibition at Opus 34 of "paintings" by our outstanding photographer continues at the gallery until December 10.

He calls it mixed media – digital photography with re-touching. What they really are, are great paintings. Not to be missed.

PIGMENTAL SAIL: Annita Nouri, Kypriaki Gonia, Larnaca.

REAR VIEW: Michael Gorman in Tala.

CHRISTMAS ART: This Cyprus Red Cross Society Christmas card “Floral Cockscomb” by Marvel Christofides is on sale for a good cause. Proceeds go to the Cyprus Red Cross Home for Sick Children.

HARVEST: Paschalis Anastasi, Aspelia Gallery.

Annita Nouri, Kypriaki Gonia

This is the last chance to see Annita’s exhibition as it closes tonight.

Dr Dora Iliopoulos-Rogan, the art historian writes of her work: "Inventively poetic and genuinely creative.

Her painting initiates us into worlds apparently undeclared, but which are, in essence, deeply metaphysical".

The Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre, associated with the Pierides Foundation and EKATE (Cyprus Chamber of Fine Arts), are presenting a large pancyprian visual arts event.

The responsibility for the realisation of the event has been undertaken by the Organising Committee which is formed by representatives of the above two organizations and with the support of the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

The initial idea for the organisation of the event is to promote and investigate the operation of a Museum of Contemporary Art at the Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre from November 2007 until May 2008.

In the framework of the event, a multifaceted programme of exhibitions, discussions, lectures and other theoretical presentations, happenings, performances etc. will be organised.

The central element of the whole organisation is the creation of a Pancyprian Cultural Archives Record of all the cultural producers of Cyprus.

During the programme, a research and archive space will be created for the electronic registration and the gradual incorporation in the Internet of the cultural producers ’ collected material.

In this space there will be operating units of collection, filling and archive keeping and there will be possibilities of access and use by the public.

The Archives record will offer the cultural producers, curators, theoreticians, the artists themselves and the public, the opportunity of studying the Cypriot cultural production and its history.

Many of the programme’s activities will result from the research and study of the Archives Records.

The event was launched a fortnight ago at Nicosia’s Municipal Arts Centre at 8 p.m with the opening of two exhibitions.

The first is called "Disaster and Oblivion" and the second "Artists Self-portraits". The exhibition of the self-portraits will take place in the framework of the Archives Record presentation.
