The Mill opens for art

Oi Myloi (The Mill), the Kaimakli Cultural Centre at 4 Constantinopoulos Street, was opened by Nicosia’s Mayor Eleni Mavrou last Wednesday, backed by the Municipal Choir and absolutely packed with guests.

The opening exhibition of artists living and working in the area of Kaimakli continues until March 20. Here are the artists participating:

Andri Argyrou, George Kepolas, Andros Heracleous, Elena Kalotouri, John Yanakou, Kalliopi Taliadorou, Kyraki Costa, Constantines Economides, Malvena Middleton, Maria Perendou, Nicholos Tschopp , Stella Angelidou Julia Astreou, and I’ve got a couple of canvases in as well.

Kyriaki, at Diatopos

Kyriaki Costa has her own one-person exhibition at Diatopos which opened on March 4 and continues until 4 April while Maria Perendou has one which opens on March 10 at Stavros tou Missirikou, Lefkonos Str, Nicosia continuing until April 2.

Vakis Loizides is showing mixed media based on the alphabet at Opus 39 until March 16.

Philipos Yiapanis exhibits his sculpture at Silks Gallery from tonight March 6 until March 31

Costas Joachim exhibits his paintings at Opus gallery from March 16-28.

Sheaves on display

The Elena Kouma exhibition ‘Sheaves’ opens at Argo Gallery, Wednesday, March 11 and continues until the 28th of the month.

Klitos Ioanides says of her work: “Her solar Sheaves of Wheat and wise use of colour are imbued with the scent of an inner essence of her soul which is expressed visually through the facets of a transformation of the psychological ego that moves towards the inner existence of things”

Antonis Danos says further: “In some pictures, seeds of wheat emerge from the soil, toward the light, energy, fecundation and abundance.

“In others, orgiastic effloresence and fruit bearing occupy the painterly surface, as a hymn to the miracle of gestation and propagation, thanks to the life-giving energy of the sun, which – in Kouma’s personal mythology – eventually leads to the sublimation and spiritualisation of the material world.”

A splendid opening

The Lazaris Argyrou retrospective had a splendid opening at Famagusta Gate with the exhibition continuing until the 6th of March. It was opened by Costas Hdjigeorghiou with much appreciation. Was half of Agrokopia there?

A considerable amount of approaches to our scene.

Strong images of mines in oil paint.

Delicate water colours. Beautiful sculptures, nudes, heads, animals. An amazing pig in white stone. A magnificent exhibition.

A MUST.

Pure, genuine, Cypriot art.

Corner art

Evros A. Evriviades has paintings at Kypriaki Gonia until March 15.

Works of art inspired by the artist’s environment within and outside the atelier.

Favourite places of Larnaca and Marseilles.

Evros was born in Larnaca in 1949. He studied painting in Marseilles.
